Adrian

The Turning Point

When Adrian first reached out, he was already putting in the effort.
He’d been training at the gym a few times a week, lifting heavier, feeling stronger but nothing was changing the way he wanted. His weight remained a challenge and food was the missing piece.

As Adrian put it himself: “You can’t out-train a bad diet.”

A friend of his had recently completed a transformation with me at Black Blade Fitness and achieved incredible results for his 50th birthday. When Adrian asked what the secret was, his friend simply said: “You need to talk to Mikey.”

That’s where our journey began.

Building the foundation

From day one, my goal was to make this process personal. Coaching isn’t about handing over a plan and hoping it sticks. It’s about collaboration, accountability and clear communication.

We started by setting a foundation around three pillars:

  1. Structured, progressive training tailored to Adrian’s goals

  2. Consistent accountability and support. Daily contact, weekly video feedback and monthly Zoom calls

  3. A balanced nutritional strategy that fuelled his workouts while creating a steady calorie deficit

Adrian embraced the process fully. He stayed engaged, asked questions, adjusted when needed and kept showing up. The goal was never perfection, it was progress.

Momentum

Over time, that consistency built momentum. The numbers started to tell their own story:

  • 30+ lbs lost

  • Noticeable improvements across all three triathlon disciplines

  • A clear, confident understanding of how to fuel for both training and recovery

In one year, Adrian completed: 238 workouts

Every single one a step toward his ultimate goal: his EPIC.

Finding his EPIC

At Black Blade Fitness, we encourage everyone to find their EPIC — Every Person’s Individual Challenge. It’s your personal benchmark, something that pushes you beyond what you thought possible.

For Adrian, that challenge was the Castle to Coast Triathlon Sportive:
🏊 1.2-mile swim
🚴‍♂️ 67-mile cycle
🏃 14-mile run

All in one day, starting at Windsor Castle and finishing on Brighton seafront.

We built towards it methodically. We focussed on structured training, recovery, race strategy and nutrition. Adrian learned how to fuel properly, pace intelligently and trust the process.

Reaching Brighton

When race day arrived, Adrian was ready. The plan worked. The training paid off.

He crossed the finish line lighter, stronger and more confident than ever. Over 30lbs down and significantly fitter than when he began, it was the perfect expression of what a year of consistency, accountability and belief can create.

But for me, the biggest win wasn’t just the result, it was the mindset shift.

Adrian no longer sees fitness as something he has to do. It’s part of who he is. He’s learned how to manage nutrition, enjoy training and approach challenges with a calm, focused mindset.
